Many people who have fashion sense tend to focus on the latest trends and believe they have to adopt these pieces in order to be fashionable and stylish. A trend is simply what experts and hierarchies in the fashion world decide is popular each season. While every trend can work for most people when styled appropriately, a trend is generally not for everyone.
If a trend works for everybody, then that means we all look and feel the same, which is definitely not true. Why would you want to look like everybody else, anyway? Only adopt the trends that speak for you and wear them how you would wear them. So many people ask, "are people still wearing ______". What does it matter? If you love it, wear it.
Two of the trends this fall are sweater dresses and bright colors. This look I've created is how I would wear the trends. I absolutely love this Chanel bag because blue represents wisdom, confidence, intelligence and truth. The Chanel brand represents luxury for the ladylike woman. I believe I deserve luxury and of course, I'm a ladylike woman. This bag is on trend and it speaks for my style, which is exactly how trends should work for you.
Trends are simply suggestions or guidelines of what to wear each season. They are not something you should be highly concerned about whenever you decide what to wear. The last thing you should want to be is "trendy." I used to think this was a good thing but being trendy means you have no sense of style at all. Someone who is trendy will purchase exactly what a mannequin is wearing in the store and wear it exactly the same way. This shows you don't think for yourself and that you don't have enough confidence to wear something how you want to wear it.
Trends should be training wheels for someone who is learning to develop her own style, not mandatory wardrobe pieces. If you already know your style, use trends as a style resource or style inspiration. But whatever you do, never become the trends as you'll fall into the world of fashion trickery.
