It's traditional for a woman to take the last name of her significant other when getting married but have we ever asked why? Is it something that is just simply done or is there a real reason behind this action?
I know in the bible, (don't quote me lol ) it says that a man is essentially leaving his mother and father when he gets married and becomes one with his wife.. So for a woman to take a man's last name doesn't symbolize the man leaving his family and holding close to his wife. This actually symbolizes the woman leaving her family and being one with her husband and his family..
It is fair to say that the woman has given power and a sense of ownership to the man by abandoning her father's name and taking her significant other's.
Now you may view this in a different way. Yes, it signifies that the woman and man are one and that the man has made the woman a part of his family but what does the woman have that signifies that the man has left his family and has become one with her? Even more, where is her fair share of power and ownership?
To me it seems that the symbolism of marriage is not true to what is intended. The woman has symbolism of engagement to a man while the man does not and the woman has symbolism of being one with her husband, while the man does not. It may sound silly, but I believe this symbolism plays a big part in why many relationships fail, especially due to a man's infidelities and desire to control the woman.
I believe something needs to change...Lol
happy a lovely weekend Readers.....
