Spending time with yourself can be one the most important ways to spend your time. People seem to think that you're lonely when you do things by yourself but this is not necessarily true. If you don't spend time by yourself on a regular basis, you will never know who you are because you are constantly adapting to the behaviors of people around you.
Have you ever noticed that you start saying the same things that your friends say or start doing the same things they do? If the answer is yes, this doesn't mean you're a follower. We seem to naturally adopt the behaviors of those around us; while other times we are just trying to "fit in." How can you learn who you truly are if you spend all your time with other people who are constantly influencing your life decisions?
When you spend time by yourself, you will think for yourself. This may seem like a "duh" moment but let that really sink in. Whenever you're around your friends, you're often trying to figure out what they think about certain things. Maybe you're shopping and you want to know what they think about a dress or you're on the phone with them and you want to know what they think about your boyfriend. Is the decision you make something you would've chosen or has your friends' thoughts changed your decision?
True friends are definitely important and spending time with them is essential but don't forget to be yourself as best as you can. And the only way to be yourself is to think for yourself and the only way to do that is to spend time by yourself. This could mean taking a walk a few times a week, taking yourself out to lunch or simply reading a book. Whatever you enjoy doing, try to see the difference in your mindset when you do it alone and when you do it with other people. Being influenced is not a bad thing as long as the choices you make are true to who you are.
